Exhibition opening of Springer, nochmals (Knight moves again), the 7th iteration of Probebühne, invites four international, Berlin-based artist to display works reflecting cultural and regional dissonances between times and places.
Mathilde ter Heijne will exhibit her multi-channel video titled Pulling Matter from Unknown Sources. The video installation documents her extensive research into togolese voodoo practices, to which she has served as an honorary priestess for rituals in Berlin.

In ihrer gemeinsamen Ausstellung bei after the butcher setzen sich Mathilde ter Heijne und Norbert Witzgall mit Aspekten und Konzepten des Nicht-Sichtbaren auseinander.
Ter Heijne untersucht soziale, kulturelle, politische und ökonomische Hintergründe gender-spezifischer Phänomene innerhalb verschiedener Gesellschaften und Kulturen und deren geschichtliche Entwicklung. In der Ausstellung bei after the butcher zeigt ter Heijne erstmalig Ergebnisse aus ihrer langjährigen Zusammenarbeit mit dem Voodoo-Priester Togbé Hounon Hounougbo Bahousou innerhalb des künstlerischen Kontextes.
Norbert Witzgall malt. Er reflektiert Konventionen von Malerei und Fotografie am Beispiel des Porträts. In seiner neuen Arbeit verwendet er Röntgenaufnahmen von Gemälden. Fotografie – hier als Grundlage der wissenschaftlicher Untersuchung von Malerei – wird erneut transformiert in Malerei.
Witzgall’s Malerei wird in der Ausstellung wiederum zur Projektionsfläche digitaler Bilder ter Heijnes. Bilder, die während einer Reise der Künstlerin nach Togo und Benin mit einer Infrarot- und Aurakamera (mit Hilfe von Daniela Macé Rosiger) entstanden sind. Auf diese Weise überlagern und verbinden sich subjektive, wissenschaftliche, und spekulative Formen der Bildproduktion.
