I am another world / Lecture: If it’s me, it’s not me.

Saturday, January 11, 2014, 16.00
Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, M13
Schillerplatz 3, 1010 Vienna
Symposium within the framework of the corresponding exhibition. Concept by Georgia Holz & Claudia Slanar. Participants: Carola Dertnig (artist, Vienna), Janez Janša, Janez Janša (artists, Ljubljana), Carrie Lambert-Beatty (art historian, Harvard University, Boston), Mathilde ter Heijne (artist, Berlin), Donelle Woolford (artist, New York).
Through her art works, art projects and collaborations Mathilde ter Heijne has been researching the production and construction of (gender) identity in different time periods and cultures. She frequently uses alter egos to research and represent structures and situations through which identities can be created or refused. Furthermore she also uses this technique to personally experience the researched phenomenon. So-called “universal human emotions” like love, revenge, compassion and sacrifice can have a very different meaning to individuals. How do cultural, political and social constructions of identity influence the understanding of emotions?

Kunstraum Niederösterreich
Herrengasse 13
A-1014 Vienna
The exhibition S/HE IS THE ONE is dedicated to current performative artistic practices, embodiment strategies and their articulation in various media compared to historic positions of performance art. How is a different or a newly experienceable world produced through performances? How are methods of appropriation, deconstruction, construction, reformulation, transposition or translation applied? How much does performance in art serve as a method of articulating political, feminist questions or the role of authorship in direct confrontation with the audience?

ƒƒ – The Oracle

Opening Thursday, September 12, 2013, 19h
The Wand, Paulstr. 34, 10557, Berlin
Exhibition: September 12 – October 06, 2013
Opening Hours: Thursday – Sunday, 14h – 18h
The Oracle is a research project by ƒƒ about how the future is envisioned today. By generating wishes for a utopian future or by channeling fears of a dystopian nature, the project generates an overview of reflections on today’s society. The Oracle is a collective imagining realized by its participants. Instead of the traditional and supernatural voice of a sole oracle, its power is redistributed to include a multitude of voices, with the site of reception localized at The Wand.
The Oracle will continue to receive text-based submissions throughout the project: oracleberlin@gmail.com.
Two evenings of performance will accompany the project:
Wednesday, September 25, 19h
Wednesday, October 2, 19h
Organized by Melissa Steckbauer /ƒƒ and Mathilde ter Heijne /ƒƒ

The participatory ritual-performance “Under Her Spell”, by Mathilde ter Heijne /ƒƒ, Jen Ray /ƒƒ, and J&K / Janne Schäfer and Kristine Agergaard, took place at the opening of the exhibition “ƒƒ Collaborations” at Galerie im Körnerpark, Berlin on April 26, 2013. Around a center stage, magical and transformative actions took place at various stations, linked by a chain of movement and people. The audience was free to actively engage and become part of the living organism created. Parts of the Spell still remain in the exhibition. A video about the performance was broadcast on zdf.kultur’s “Kulturpalast” on May 2 (the segment on the performance begins at 3:23).
